Grayscale
Sometimes I get asked why I shoot in grayscale.
The short and honest answer is because I like it; I think it is beautiful, endearing, and timeless. I see a sophistication in the subtleties hidden in the shades of monochrome.
I know there is beauty in a color shot—almost all my favorites in cinema are in color. I love the beauty in the gray simplicity, though.
I shouldn’t have to justify this personal choice to anyone—although often those of us who choose to photograph or paint this way do. We’re expected to have an answer ready to go (especially for editors).
I don’t really have an answer. I just like it. I think it’s beautiful.
