I initially moved back to Alaska with the idea that I wanted to become a professional wildlife photographer. The more I go out and photograph, however, the more I realize that may not be where my skill set lies. Don’t get me wrong—I want to turn my camera towards wildlife any time I get that chance. I also want to share those encounters, here, with all of you. When I look across the expansive field of others in this discipline, though, I realize just how much my eye prefers to look at things in a more abstract way than usually allowed in wildlife. I like the freedom that fine art brings me, and I like the idea of opening up my portfolio to projects that tell stories that dip between man, animal, and habitat.

I was privileged enough an e-mail exchange not that long ago with a renowned fine art photographer I greatly admire. She was kind enough to visit this website and offer me a word of advice: to take photographs of my life in Alaska. I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on that—on how to make my photographic stories more personal and grounded to myself as an artist. Though I have begun to sketch out the beginnings of longer-term projects, I know that my ideas will evolve as I do. A process that I am so excited to go through. I still want to call myself a nature photographer…but in a broader, more personal sense of the word.

You may have noticed some changes on this website; more minimalistic, simple, and filled with negative space. In the coming days, my selection of prints will likely change as well. Keep checking back as I reset what I want to do with this space and strive towards making it reflect the work I want to produce. Thank you for following along.
